Rina Mondal, daughter of Sona Yadav and wife of Shyam Mondal (by profession driver) was rescued from the Sonagachhi area and admitted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) by Anwara Bibi (12/5, Nilmoni Mitra Street, P. O. Beadon Stret, P. S. Jorabagan, Kolkata-700 006).
According to the Stay-in-Certificate of Dr. Sayantan Chakraborty, Unit II of Medical College Hospital, Rina Mondal was admitted to CMCH on 20 May, 2008, with Acute Fulminate Hepatitis B+, Altered Sensorium, Raised LFT (Bilirubin 14.4, Dir. 8.5) raised P. Time (28 sec) and signs of Hepatic Encephalopathy. She was HbsAg Positive, she has been treated consumptively without antiviral therapy. She received antibodies, fresh frozen plasma and whole blood (B+). |
We came to know her story from Anandabazar Patrika on 27 May, 2008 and wish to take the responsibility of proper counseling & rehabilitation of Rina Mondal. When we, the representative of Aabheri meet her she could not tell surely anything regarding her residence or how she came there. After several trying we came to know that his father Sona Yadav residing at Samastipur, Bihar. She was married and her husband's name was Shyam Mondal, a driver by profession. According to her, she was tortured by her mother-in-law and husband.
We, the members of Aabheri, a social welfare organization extended our hand to help her and have taken the responsibility of proper counseling, rehabilitation and treatment (psychometric). We have intimated and have sought permission to take over her responsibilities from Durbar Mahila Samannay Committee and CMCH.
CMCH had planned for her discharge but following our written request they extend the date of her release by one week under written instructions from Dr. A. N. Biswas, Deputy Superintendent of CMCH.
We contacted Sanlaap, another social welfare organization for lodging and proper treatment of Rina Mondal. They happily extended their hand to help the rehabilitation and further her psychometric treatment.
On 9 July, 2008, we released Rina Mondal from CMCH and took her to Sneha, the home of the female child of Sanlaap at Rajpur, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
Next day i.e. 10 July, 2008 they (Sneha) contacted us and informed that Rina Mondal's health had deteriorated and she was suffering from breathing trouble and convulsions We immediately shifted her to the Emergency Department of Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College & Hospital (NRSMCH). They admitted her immediately and started her treatment. As free beds were not available, we had to admit her in paid bed and we also paid for her medicines and saline.
We were in constant touch with the doctors in charge of Rina Mondal and the Superintendent at NRSMCH. She had received 4 expensive injections per day to boost her lever functions. Fortunately, her health condition changed for the better and she was out of danger and declared stable. Doctors advised to release her from the hospital and take some medicines regularly for 6 months to get her completely cured.
On 25 July, 2008, we released Rina Mondal from NRSMCH and Sanlaap team members took her away to Sneha, their home again. She is currently staying at Sneha.
Simultaneously, we contacted Dr. Satyabrata Kar of Advanced Neuropsychiatry Institute, Thakurpukur, regarding the psychiatric treatment of Rina Mondal. We were informed by Dr. Kar, that she cannot be admitted to this center because her Hepatitis is still not cured and the psychiatric drugs would enhance her medical complications further.
We are also in touch with the Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Mr. Goutam M. Chakraborty, regarding Rina Mondal. We hope to get some information regarding her background soon.
All the expenses (medical and others) have been bourn by M/s Bengal Sriram Pvt. Ltd. We hereby request other corporate bodies and members of the public to please extend their helping hand in providing effective treatment to Rina Mondal and subsequently repatriating her back to her hometown.
